mom and dad hug copy.jpg

Mom and Dad embrace outside a friends home in Phoenix the day before their wedding on September 1, 1942.

Mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. John Barrett, cuddle on the running board of their car. Does he have his hand on her breast in that first photo? It doesn't surprise me; I remember him teasing her by trying to fondle her breasts in public. In the second photo the car is used as a backdrop for their kiss; they were often openly affectionate.

Mom and Dad posing in an Arizona cactus garden. I remember his many ties, and tie clips, and the hat to protect his balding head from the Arizona sun. Notice that in one photo Mom holds Dad's hat because he holds a cigarette. Camels were his brand, only Camels. A pack a day. He died of lung cancer at the age of 61.

Dad, Peggy (about 2) and me (about 4), posing in front of the Arizona jumping cactus. Neither Peggy or I look much interested in having our picture taken here.

Jackie (me about age 5) on the left, the taller, older sister of Peggy. Looks like I have a grip on her, wanting to make her stand still for Mom, the photographer.

Mom holding us this time while Dad takes the photo. I must be about 6 here, as I seem to have lost my two front teeth.

Jackie and Peggy. Notice that I am the one with the curl in her hair, and Peggy has the perfectly straight hair. She always wanted my natural curl and I wanted straight hair.

Jack, Jackie, Peggy, and Pearl, standing in front of our Hudson car. The Hudson was the only car my father would own.

Firetruck-Peg-Jackie.jpg

Look at us, Jackie (I am at the top) and Peggy, daughters of the Fire Inspector (a rank next to Fire Chief) who got to ride once a year in the fire truck parade for Fire Prevention Week. We thought we were such big shots! Look closely, you will see we are wearing matching shirts. We are shown here about ages 7 and 5. This our last year to ride in the parade of fire trucks since we move from Williams Air Force Base to Chandler the next year.
